A Stunning Transitional-Style Kitchen Design in Clifton, Virginia
When our clients in Clifton, Virginia, reached out to us for their kitchen remodel, they had a clear vision.
As empty-nesters who love to host large family get-togethers, they imagined a fresh, light, and homey space that could easily accommodate large family gatherings.
Our Slate Design & Remodel team was excited to take on this challenge and bring their vision of a warm, functional family kitchen to life.
What is a Transitional-style Kitchen?
A transitional kitchen design is a popular style that bridges the gap between traditional and modern aesthetics. It combines the warm comfort of classic design elements like real wood with the clean lines and simplicity of more contemporary styles.
Transitional kitchens often feature a neutral color palette, sleek finishes, and a mix of natural and manufactured materials. This style appeals to homeowners because it offers a timeless, functional, and stylish look while providing a canvas for personal expression or new trends.
The Before: A Kitchen in Need of an Update
Before the remodel, this couple’s kitchen was a classic case of an outdated kitchen that didn’t serve their needs well. The multi-level island was difficult to move around and enjoy. They had a large closet pantry but desired more accessible storage solutions.
The Vision: A Bright, Expansive, Transitional Kitchen Design
Our clients dreamed of a fresh kitchen look that could withstand the test of time and appeal to different styles. They desired a more expansive space where multi-generations could enjoy quality time together. They also wanted quartz countertops for easy maintenance and a timeless touch.
The goal was to create a transitional kitchen design that would meet the needs of the couple as well as large groups while seamlessly blending traditional and contemporary styles.
The Process: Reimagining the Space with a Transitional Kitchen Design
The original kitchen layout was well planned and worked for our clients, so the appliances could remain in the same place. And they had plenty of cabinets, so we just needed to reimagine the entire space to optimize each section.
The kitchen island was completely rebuilt into a single-level island with a thick mitered-edge countertop, and turned the gas cooktop and downdraft to fit seamlessly into the new island.
We removed the closet pantry to open up the space, allowing us to create pull-out storage for items they wanted quick access to, like baking and cooking ingredients. We created an innovative knife storage center in an accessible, safe pull-out cabinet within reach.
One of the most clever aspects of this project was designing the custom coffee nook cabinet with pocket doors to hide clutter when not in use and make it convenient for display while hosting.
This custom solution exemplifies the transitional style kitchen by blending functionality with a sleek, modern aesthetic.
The Result: A Stunning Transitional Kitchen Transformation
Our clients absolutely love this kitchen and will enjoy it with their visiting family. They have a bright, open kitchen perfect for entertaining, a large, single-level island with ample space for buffets and crafts, and elegant features that add a touch of timeless glamor with marble backsplash with gold inserts.
You can see how open and inviting this space will be while hosting their next family gathering!
